  • What’s the difference between a professionally monitored alarm system and a self-monitored alarm system?
    A professionally monitored alarm system will dispatch your local police, fire, and medical personnel to your residence in the event of an “active” alarm. This is achieved through the monitoring center of your respective alarm system provider (monthly monitoring fee applicable). A self-monitored alarm system is one in which you, as the property owner, are solely responsible for alerting the proper authorities in the event of an “active” alarm (no monthly monitoring fee).
  • What’s the difference between contractual and non-contractual professionally monitored alarm systems?
    Contractual professionally monitored alarm systems usually require a credit verification and a 3-5 years “contractual” agreement. Non-contractual professionally monitored alarm systems are set up for month-to-month payments without a “contract”. Most of these alarm systems are categorized as “DIY” systems. The subscriber can usually cancel or restart their professionally monitored service without paying any reactivation fees.
  • Will my system be serviced in the event of equipment failure or technical difficulties?
    Most contractual professionally monitored alarm companies have a tech ops division that is responsible for dispatching an alarm technician to service your system, which is included in the “contract”. With “DIY” alarm systems, however, the customer is responsible for any troubleshooting or replacement of equipment. Usually, the customer will contact the manufacturer’s customer service department, or the contractor that installed the alarm system for assistance (service fees will apply).
